The
people of Cairo make their living in many ways.
This glassblower takes recycled glass and makes souvenir
items. They are mostly cobalt blue, but we
purchased one that was a pale blue with a red design
applied to it. He also made fishing net floats
which serve well as Christmas Balls! The
man in the background is Beshr, our driver and
guide. We hired a car and driver for our
sightseeing around Cairo. It was not too expensive,
and let us keep our own schedule.
We were in Egypt during Ramadan, a very holy period of
daily fast and prayers. Our guide was very devout
in keeping his prayer schedule. In Cairo this was
relatively easy as there is a mosque within walking
distance everywhere. sketch
