Tomb
of Seti II
Guides are unable to enter Royal Tombs. This prevents severe
congestion by tour groups stopping to listen to their guides. However,
Hossam provided useful information for us prior to our entry. We
went to many Royal Tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The Tomb of
Seti II is but one example.
Photography is not allowed in the Royal Tombs. The pictures
below are from before the ban.
This tomb was executed for King
User Kheperu_Ra Seti Merenptah, commonly called Seti II. He reigned
in the 19th Dynasty in 1205 B.C. The reliefs in the first corridor
of the tomb are beautifully executed. The second corridor paintings
were not finished. In the third corridor and chambers which follow,
there are various figures of the king and representations of divinities.
The tomb comes to an abrupt end a short distance farther on.
When the king died, the walls were hastily painted, and on the
ceiling a large figure of Nut was rapidly put in. The remains of
the granite lid can be seen and the figure of the King is represented
in stone.

Ceiling of the first corridor.

View down to the sarcophagus chamber.
