| These are all the forms of
"Athor" as recorded in the 1800. Hathor
was worshiped throughout Egypt's history. Her name means
House of Horus. Her function has changed over time. In
her role as the celestial cow, or sky goddess, she
received the sun each night in her mouth to protect it
from power or darkness. Horus was the sun.
Dendera was a Hathor cult center in the Old
Kingdom. She is associated with the birth houses of
Ptolemaic and Roman temples as the protector of women.
